Print Quality - 1st solid layers on infill

Postby SchMax » Tue Sep 18, 2018 5:53 am

hello@all!

we have noticed another small issue with our new pro2 & ideamaker.
our main focus in 3D printing are architectural models - our Falshforge Finder (with Flashprint) works very good with that!
smooth surfaces and nice top layers are very important for us! ("ironig" is another feature we hope ideamaker gets in the future - but thats a topic for another day)

we have a small problem with ideamaker, which i think could be fixed very easy.

we print with 15% triangular infill and 3 top layers (which, as i mentioned, works very good with your flashforge finder - same PLA filament)

first: how it is - our problem with ideamaker:
when it prints the first solid layer after some infill the printer has to sometimes print in mid-air, in between the infill. the filament "bends up" when it does that, which results in very bad top layers when it prints the other top layers on top of that bend up sections.

second: how it could be: - example flashprint
in flashprint, the printer makes something like a outline on the infill, 1 layer before and on the layer it prints the solid layers. as you can see in the picutre the filament has something to grab on to - and doesn't "bend up"

i hope that this can be implemented!
i know i could just set the infill higher or do 5 top layers or something - but it works fine on an other printer with the same settings and i dont't want to waste filament or have double the printtime!

greetings

This is a GREAT idea. I have thought that would be a nice feature before but I didn't know a different software was actually doing that. Very cool, and this should definitely be implemented by Ideamaker!! I hope they feel the same.

I will have to check simplify3d to see if this does it. Also KS_Husker did you get your printer yet

Not detected in S3D...
Great feature btw! Need it 100%.

For now, when I use low infill (7-10) I add some 1-5mm of more dense infill (15-20) and then go top layers..

x2. I've seen this a few times, especially with PET-G: my solution was no infill under 20% and more top layers, which as you rightly say is a waste of time/filament if you don't need that extra material.
