Raise Touch 1.0 rsync - easiest way to mirror a folder

Postby krohelm » Sun Sep 09, 2018 7:31 pm

This is awesome. I was asking for this months ago and now it's here! I can now quickly synchronize a folder on my desktop with my Raise printer; deletions, additions, modifications and without the dramatic overhead of a full re-sync every time. One command handles all the synchronization, it is incredibly convenient! Thanks, Raise - this is a massive quality of life improvement for my OCD printer maintenance.

Over wifi, synchronizing a 568 MB library of gcode spanning 3 material types and 35 directories:

No changes, 0.5 seconds:

Code: Select all

time rsync -rtvpl --delete gcode/ printer:prints/
sending incremental file list

sent 4,493 bytes  received 46 bytes  9,078.00 bytes/sec
total size is 596,368,216  speedup is 131,387.58
rsync -rtvpl --delete gcode/ printer:prints/  0.00s user 0.03s system 6% cpu 0.458 total

Add 1 25mb file, 8 seconds:

Code: Select all

time rsync -rtvpl --delete gcode/ printer:prints/
sending incremental file list
alloy910/demo/
alloy910/demo/pliers.gcode

sent 25,867,872 bytes  received 72 bytes  3,043,287.53 bytes/sec
total size is 622,225,211  speedup is 24.05
rsync -rtvpl --delete gcode/ printer:prints/  0.38s user 0.36s system 9% cpu 8.017 total

Remove 1 25mb file, 0.5 seconds:

Code: Select all

time rsync -rtvpl --delete gcode/ printer:prints/
sending incremental file list
deleting alloy910/demo/pliers.gcode
alloy910/demo/

sent 4,497 bytes  received 112 bytes  3,072.67 bytes/sec
total size is 596,368,216  speedup is 129,392.11
rsync -rtvpl --delete gcode/ printer:prints/  0.00s user 0.06s system 14% cpu 0.424 total

Prefer to use NFS sharing from a NAS

Sure, that's great too! I didn't know nfs was a viable option on the miniature command set supported by the raise touch distribution.
