N2 sized PEI sheet from CS Hyde

Postby Charles » Wed Feb 01, 2017 5:48 pm

I asked CS Hyde about getting a precut N2 size PEI sheet with adhesive on the back. They added their various thickness of PEI sized for the N2 to the website:

http://catalog.cshyde.com/viewitems/3d- ... /ultem-pei

They have not added the 20mil and 40mil yet, but here is the prices quoted for all of them.
3 mil. – $19.07
5 mil. - $31.50
10 mil. – $43.79
20 mil.- $46.64
40 mil. -$86.62

The price for the N2 size sheets are much more than their 12x12. They told me: "Speaking with product manager she told me that the cost is due to the left over scrap with the desired dimension. The dimension does not give us a accurate yield when cutting the raw material." So I guess the price is for whatever size sheet they are cutting our N2 size sheet from.

more economical option

Postby Charles » Thu Feb 16, 2017 1:43 am

I asked CS Hyde for a more economical option for the N2 since the 13"x13.5" sized sheets were so much more expensive than the 12x12. They figured out that if we keep the max on one side to 12.5, then the price will be much closer to the 12x12 size sheet. We settled on 12.5x13.5"

Here is the quote they provided me for the 12.5x13.5 sheets:

3mil 12.5x13.5 10.65
5mil 12.5x13.5 23.44
10mil 12.5x13.5 31.65
20mil 12.5x13.5 40.90
40mil 12.5x13.5 46.85

I just ordered the 40mil sheet of the 12.5x13.5. here:

Guess 12.5x13.5 won’t affect the printable area and the sheet can be help by clips.

Just curious how did this turn out? Is it good?

Any photos?

That's sized for a Prusa i3 MK2 heat bed (10" x 8.8"). And to be honest, even for a Prusa i3 MK2, that's expensive. The sheets directly from Prusa are $8.30 or something. Yes, it's minus shipping, but for those of you in the U.S., they have a special low cost shipping option via UPS just for the sheets. But this is all really beside the point as it's really got nothing to do with Raise3D.

The sheets from CS Hyde are actually quite good so I hear. Theoretically, one could go with a really thick sheet and although you would have to reconfigure your nozzle to bed distance, it should be sufficiently thick to not bubble underneath materials that like to really stick to PEI like PETG.

I use cs Hyde pei sheets on all my printers.
No glue, spray, tape or anything else.
Just lightly sanded pei.

I buy the thickest possible, stick it to glass, give it a scuff with 300 grout sanding sponge and go to work.
Even my 60cm x 60cm printer has a pei sheet on it.

Stuff works very well.
I get the thickest sheet possible so that I can sand off any scratches I may put in it and it's still good to use after that.

It's easy enough to buy a slightly-larger sheet of PEI and the cut/sand off the extra.
