Two years in and I still feel the same way. Beautiful machine that almost always does what's expected of it.

Re: Z-stop Spring by Julia Truchsess

I've noticed fairly big variations in Z depending on spring clip tension and location. Glass is not perfectly rigid and can flex. The bed can move 1/2mm or more depending on where the clips are, how many you use, and how strong they are, so it's important to be consistent.

Re: New idea for insulating a hot end rapidly

The key parameter is insulation, or "k" factor. The insulators I sell for Zortrax printers have a k factor of 0.48. And installation couldn't be much easier - a couple of silicone o-rings.

There are a zillion sizes in the popup menu, including 300 x 300 x 8. Still maybe cheaper to make your own.

Re: Black MagiC Conductive PLA

I have some Black Magic, I forget if it's PLA or ABS. The biggest problem I had with it was lack of layer bonding. Bonding to itself was bad enough, but generally with conductive material you want to do a multi-material print with some non-conductive material and this was for me a total fail, it wou...

Re: ABS - partial insufficient strength of printed objects

There are a few things you can do to strengthen parts: • Use thicker layers. Thicker layers carry more heat energy from the extruder to the print, increasing layer bonding. • Use more shells. Shells contribute more to part strength than infill. • Increase the amount that infill overlaps the inner sh...

Re: Carbon Fiber Print surface??

You can buy a 0.25" MIC6 aluminum plate from McMaster for $47. Al has twice the thermal conductivity of glass, but they don't sell it in smaller thicknesses.

Re: Carbon Fiber Print surface??

I'm using 6mm borosilicate glass plates that have been ground flat. They are excellent, but they increase the heat-up time by a few minutes. Other people like PEI sheets. I have a sheet of it around, but haven't tried it yet. PEI is great, but it doesn't make your glass flat. Where do you get the g...

Re: IdeaMaker feature requests

+1 for auto-arrange. IdeaMaker is the only slicer I've ever used that doesn't have this feature.

Also +1 for more shortcuts, especially for "duplicate". Ctl-D should make one duplicate of any model(s) selected.

Re: RINGING the electromechanical challenge

Nice work! The X-Y ringing seen in the video is exactly what one would expect when executing abrupt changes in speed or direction of a mass suspended on long rods :) Reduce mass and/or acceleration/deceleration and ringing should decrease proportionally. Regarding the "rippled" extrusion o...

Re: Cyanoacrylate (Super Glue) to greatly improve adhesion

I've been using PEI bonded to glass with 3m 486 for quite a while now and love it for PLA and PETG. The only problem I've had was that Form Futura "Stone Fill" PLA bonded to it permanently and I had to remove that PEI sheet. I never experienced this issue with any other PLA or PETG, prints...

"Not useful"??? It's been pretty darned useful to me since January 2016, I can assure you, having earned a not insignificant part of my living using it. Not that there isn't room for improvement, but geez, "simply not useful" is a bit hyperbolic, no?

Yes, I know, lol. This thread is sort of a string of suggestions - by "it should" I meant I would like Raise to make it work that way.

It should remember the last profile used, have it in view and selected the each time the slice dialog opens.

Re: Colorfabb XT-CF20 for 40h print

It's natural to think that increasing temperature will cause plastic to flow better, and to some extent it's true, but higher temperature can result in more jamming with some materials, because it causes the material to swell up inside the throat tube. I don't know if it's the case for XT but it can...
