Re: Weird first layer print behaviour

SOLVED (?) When I raise the print temp by 5 degrees the issue went away. Not sure why that works, but maybe before the movement more heat is applied which is why it would print some parts good some parts bad. May need to replace my temp sensor as I've always printed at 225C for the R3D premium, now ...

Re: Weird first layer print behaviour

Raise3D Colorful PLA at 225, 0.30 first layer height, 25mm/s travel speed.

I haven't tried other slicers, but good suggestion, will run a test tonight using S3D

Re: Weird first layer print behaviour

Ruled out spool drag, pulled out a lot of extra filament and its still doing it. Didn't think of that at first, so good suggestion. Regarding the bad axis theory, sort of doesn't match as the full layer is placed, if there was a bad axis it would be short in that direction. I'm thinking retraction. ...

Re: Full maintenance teardown - what should I replace/upgrade?

i'll post an stl for a new breakout board tray that is on cold end. The current one has thermocouple wires coming in from below and making a hard right turn at the connectors = poor design and will eventually break the thermocouple wires. My mod has wires coming from beneath. If you don't have the ...

Re: Weird first layer print behaviour

It has nothing to do with bed level or Z height, as it prints the first part crappy and the second part fine all in the same area, and it occurs on different parts of the bed as shown on the picture. If all the red lines where in a line then I'd say bed level, but its everywhere on the bed. Clearly ...

Re: Full maintenance teardown - what should I replace/upgrade?

Jetguy posted the link in the screensaver/lock thread. Regarding the ribbon cable, how have you replaced it? Seems like a pain since its wrapped in a black tape like material and then bundled with the other connectors in another wrap. Also, it looks like the end connector won't fit through the cable...

Full maintenance teardown - what should I replace/upgrade?

So I need to replace the faulty ribbon cable which looks like its going to be a major undertaking, so I decided after about 9 months of non-stop printing, I should just take a weekend and do a full maintenance teardown. Would like input on what to replace/upgrade/maintain? - Replace ribbon cable - o...

Weird first layer print behaviour

Here's a challenging one. See the pics below, but something bizarre is happening on the first layer. It prints the shells, and then starts the first solid layer, usually around the middle of the print (red line), from that point until the edge of the print the filament is wavy (direction of red arro...

Re: Fans are turning on and off

IMG_9024.JPG When you start wigging out because your printer isn't printing something, and you are waiting on Sales to get back with you on how to order a replacement ribbon cable since the machine is out of warranty, you have to take matters in your own handles and get it back up and running. Its ...

ideamaker feature request - custom first layer number of shells

You can adjust the height of the first layer, but I'd like to be able to customize the number of shells on the first layer. When printing with several shells, the first layer "elephant foots" (widens) since you want that good squish for adhesion and the multiple shells just squish against ...

Re: Fans are turning on and off

Thanks Jetguy! It was the ribbon cable, its not loose on the connector but the cables are loose going into the connector, exactly at that 'sharp turn' you mentioned. I did start to have thermal runaway too, luckily I shut it down as the temp was reading 274C when it was set at 215C. Ticket submitted

Fans are turning on and off

The hotend cooling fan runs for a few seconds, then stops for less than a second, then spins back up. I've replaced the fan, plugged fans into the other ports on the control board and they are all doing this. Seems the 12v is dropping out. Anyone see this before or had a similar situation? Hoping to...

Re: Filament Out Sensor

The one I reference about is mechanical, the filament separates the bearings, when the filament runs out the bearings move closer which activates the switch, not sure if its a NO or NC contact but that may work.

Re: Printer Freezes during printing

My printer has started to freeze about every other print. Anyone else experiencing? I was running old 0.7 something touchpanel firmware and would only have a freeze once a month maybe, I recently updated to the latest and now its freezing every other print. Also, what can you do to recover when it f...

Re: Raft top layer not flat/sticking to model

SOLVED!!!!! Check your bed height / nozzle distance. Turns out to be simply the bed height adjustment was off. Not sure how that happened as my screw has an upgraded spring and a nut on the bottom preventing it from turning clockwise. I was puzzled as why layer 4 was not adhering to the layer 3, loo...

Re: Raft top layer not flat/sticking to model

So swapped out the entire hotend with a brand new one and its worse - so its not the nozzle cleanliness. I still think its something changed in ideamaker since I never had this issue before, the rafts always came off cleanly. The raft has two dense top layers, the first one is not bonding to the und...

Re: Raft top layer not flat/sticking to model

I tried to print a file that was already in the N2 storage, it previously printed fine, the top of the raft was smooth and it easily detached from the piece. Now its doing the same thing as my other prints, so I think its not a setting issue in Ideamaker, since the file previously printed fine. I'm ...

Re: Resume does not turn on cooling fan

Glad to see its fixed. I'm still afraid to update, when I first got my printer I immediately updated the firmware to 1.1.3 and the hell began, after about a week downgraded back to 1.1.1 (which the machine came with) and its worked great since......so if not broke don't fix :) Where can I find old f...
