one thing I've done is not set the Z clearance high enough and that can cause enough back pressure to make skips in first layer. Its funny but definitely filament dependent. another thing I recently had to deal with - the thermocouple wires are way too short for the left extruder and the printed plastic face that covers the extruder controller board is may to small to fit the additional capacitors so I had to "modify" it
